Volunteer AHA HCP CPR Classes

Horry County Fire Rescue will be conducting 3 Volunteer AHA HCP CPR (Initial) Classes on May 29, June 26, and July 24. These classes will be from 1800 - 2200 at the M.L. Brown Public Safety Building.  Any prospective students are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible.  A maximum of 18 students has been set for each class.

Congratulations Training Officer Dozier

HCFR would like to announce the selection of FF/EMT Michael Dozier as the New Fire Training Officer for the Training Division.  The position holds the designated rank of Fire Captain. The selection process for this position was extremely comprehensive and required a considerable amount of work by the candidates. 

Captain Dozier will officially assume his new role starting March 23, 2013.  Please help us in congratulating Captain Dozier in his new role.


HCFR Welcomes Patrick Ellis

Horry County Fire Rescue is pleased to welcome Captain Patrick Ellis to the Medical Training Department.  Captain Ellis comes to HCFR from New Bern, NC where he was most recently a Paramedic with Carolina East Medical Center.  With more than 17 years in the emergency services field, Captain Ellis looks forward to sharing the knowledge and experience that he has acquired during his tenure.

Captain Ellis has been married two years to wife, Jamie and has five children.

Please help us welcome Captain Ellis.


ATA Receives Grant from the SC Firefighters Association

The Academy for Technology and Academics received a $7,500 grant from the South Carolina Firefighters Association.  This grant, awarded by the recruitment and retention committee of the association granted six Career and Technology Centers that are teaching fire curriculum. 

ATA, in conjunction with Horry County Fire Rescue and the Boy Scouts of America, is currently in its 3rd year of the Emergency and Fire Management Services program.  This program, if followed in its entirety, enables juniors and seniors as ATA to take the necessary classes to be firefighter ready by time they graduate high school.

The money awarded by the Association will be used the strengthen the program, by adding equipment and supplies that are needed as they produce qualified firefighters to the departments throughout the state.

Horry County Employee Softball Tourney

Volunteer Recruits Begin Orientation

On Monday, March 11 and Saturday, March 9, 2013, a combined 70 volunteer recruits began their department orientation.  HCFR wishes each good luck and welcomes you on board!

Congratulations ATA Students

Horry County Fire Rescue would like to congratulate ATA's Emergency and Fire Management Services student Nicholas Rosaforte for successfully completing Firefighter I.

In addition, former student and current HCFR volunteer Matt Papparella is now a National Registry First Responder!!!

Horry County Fire Rescue would like to congratulate Tradesworker, George Moore, for being named Employee of the Quarter for the Public Safety Division.  George was recognized for his thoroughness, appearance, attitued, flexibility and dependability.  He portrays a positive image and serves as a model for all.

Public Education Statistics

Horry County Fire Rescue has had an incredible year in the public education department.

For fiscal year 2011-2012, HCFR had 23,115 participants in 960 programs.
From January 1-June 20, 2012 more than 9,200 children participate in 286 programs.

We look forward to continuing the education of our children in fire safety!


HCFR to Provide Smoke Detectors

Horry County Fire Rescue would like to remind residents that working smoke detectors are the first line of defense in saving lives.  For those residents who cannot afford to purchase smoke detectors, Horry County Fire Rescue will provide and install them at no cost.

Smoke detectors are also available for the deaf and hearing impaired.
